At her suggestion, I started making holiday-specific toys. The first year I made some complicated shamrocks and leprechaun hats for St. Patrick’s Day. They were cute, but took too long to make for the price she could charge. Instead, for every holiday I’ve been making whimsical mice out of holiday-themed fabric.
Here’s how to make a St. Patrick’s Day mouse. I’ve attached a pattern but also given estimates in case you just want to use scrap fabric.
- Holiday-themed fabric
- Scraps of felt or fleece in assorted colors
- Polyester fiber (I buy old pillows at a thrift store, open them into a mesh laundry bag, wash and dry the fiber, and use it.
- Matching thread
- Puffy fabric paint
